A Slack agent for cross-team decisions
The decision, without the meeting.
When two teams disagree, Ringi asks each person where they stand, privately, on their own time. It pins down what the fight is about, then writes a one-screen brief with a straight recommendation. The brief goes to every stakeholder for a sign-off stamp. If someone can't stamp it, Ringi works the objection one-on-one until a version exists that everyone can.
THE DOCUMENT
What the brief looks like
Every session ends the same way: a crux, two options, one recommendation. Ringi sends it to everyone the decision touches until each person stamps it.
Sealed by engineering, design, and product. Decided.
- CRUX
- Not timeline. Nobody told mobile their scope was already cut in planning.
- OPTION A
- Ship web-only in September, mobile in October with full scope.
- OPTION B
- Hold the release two weeks, ship both with reduced scope.
- REC
- Option A. Mobile's October slot restores the cut scope; announce the change in #product today.
Three steps, no calendar invite
Ringi runs the whole loop inside Slack. You never leave the channel.
Name the disagreement
Type /ringi, describe the decision, pick the stakeholders.
Positions, privately
Ringi DMs each person for their actual position. Everyone answers before they see anyone else's take.
Stamp the brief
Every stakeholder stamps the brief. If someone objects, Ringi runs a private objection round with each person and revises the brief until everyone can stamp it. Once every stamp is in, Ringi names the decision and logs it.
Why “ringi”?
In Japanese companies, a 稟議 (ringi) proposal circulates from desk to desk. Each stakeholder reads it and weighs in. Then they stamp it with their seal. By the time it reaches the last desk the decision is made, and nobody called a meeting.
Ringi does the same for your Slack workspace, minus the paperwork. It circulates the question and works the objections quietly. Then it collects the seals and remembers the decision by name.
Try it on one real decision
Install it, type /ringi on something your team is stuck on, and read the brief. If it doesn't
beat the meeting, uninstall it.
